Unique custom-made product for Abacus launch

Mandate

Abacus was looking for a cool product to send out to their big partners. As their name is Abacus, the idea was to design abaci with text on it. We chose to combine the best materials to create this unique product. We selected walnut wood, pine wood and painted stainless.

With this project, Abacus is giving its partners unique products that have positive impacts on our environment. Here’s how.

The positive impacts of locally-made product

Economic spinoffs – We’re committed to locally sourcing our products: it’s one of our most important values. For this project, we worked with Montreal design studio Aubry/Levesque. The designers bought their materials from 3 Quebec manufacturers. The engraving on the wood and the production were done in their studio in Montreal. That means 5 local businesses were involved in the creation process for this unique product.

Environmental impacts – Like we said, manufacturing and production were local, meaning products were only transported from one province to another. We’re all located in Montreal and Abacus in Toronto. The products only travelled 340 miles to reach the team! So not much greenhouse gas was produced overall — that’s a win for the agency!

Social benefits – By handing out a locally made gift, Abacus is putting the spotlight on local products and showing off the creativity of Canadian designers. Abacus is therefore positioning itself to promote local talent.

Abacus – A role model for our Ecoleaders

Abacus can see the impact it makes by choosing a local supplier: it encourages local creativity, minimizes environmental impacts and supports jobs in the country. This strategy is in line with its mission and overall vision.
