Kotmo is adapting to the crisis by diversifying its services and products in collaboration with Quebec manufacturers.

The current situation is forcing us all to revisit our lifestyle habits and adapt to new measures to protect those around us. Unfortunately, many cultural businesses have suffered economically. Kotmo's primary goal is to put the human element first in its creations, in order to contribute to the revival of the local economy. The company is experiencing gradual growth and now has more than eight employees. Like many others, it has had to revise its business plan, which has suffered many repercussions compared to forecasts. It is adjusting by re-examining its priorities, thinking about the near future, and leveraging its expertise in local production to facilitate the availability of objects that have become essential today.

Develop new products
For two months now, the company has been able to survive thanks to its sanitary product offering. Masks made in Quebec from polyester soaked in a certified SilverClear® antimicrobial liquid, antimicrobial keys using a patented technology developed with one of their partners, as well as face shields made from 100% recycled PET. The company never imagined selling such large quantities of these types of personalized products. Each of these items can simultaneously supply four other Quebec companies, thanks to the dedication and collaboration of its suppliers.

Expanding your horizons to B2C
Initially specializing in B2B, a strong demand was felt by offering this type of object. Kotmo wishes to remain as attentive as possible to its community and has therefore developed a temporary store, especially for its customers and for the general public who wish to place a smaller order for their personal needs. It is therefore possible to purchase sets of 3, 5 or 10 units of masks, protectors or antimicrobial keys. Two mask colors were developed for this store, black and gray to offer a more summery model. As for personalized corporate masks, they are available in the color of the company's choice by contacting the organization directly.

New ideas emerging
This crisis has sparked ideas in every employee's mind. Céline and Cindy, founder and partner, firmly believe in the contribution a team can make to emerging from such a precarious situation. They established a meeting every morning known as a "Kick-off," with the aim of maintaining team spirit and encouraging mutual support. These morning kick-offs have created brief brainstorming moments to consider a project that could cushion a second wave of the pandemic. Fall is Kotmo's peak season. This is when companies contact them to prepare their Christmas gifts for clients and employees, events, and several other occasions where promotional items are needed.

No one can predict the coming months, but it is possible to prepare for them as best we can. To do this, Kotmo has begun developing a range of local products, pre-determined to offer an efficient, original service that can meet corporate needs. These boxes can be produced within relatively short production times since the items will be kept in inventory. Eight items will be conceptualized in collaboration with illustrators, designers, and local businesses, thus offering a limited series with a unique design to our customers. To facilitate the production and delivery process, customization will be offered on the gift boxes. This new service corresponds to the values of community, mutual aid, and diversity.

This crisis has had far more negative than positive effects on our economy, but it has allowed us to review our lifestyle and professional habits to successfully adapt to it. The positive impact on our environment, on the local economy, the origin of raw materials, and our autonomy have always been at the heart of the mission and have greatly helped us overcome obstacles. The design of a project today must take into account factors that enable overall well-being. These principles are decisive for the survival of a company.
